Ed Godfrey & Salena Lettera

Name:    Ed Godfrey & Salena Lettera

Kids or Grandkids:  None

Home State:  Arizona

Who do you drive for?  Landstar Ranger

Team or solo operation?  Team

How many miles do you drive a year?  150,000

How long do you usually stay out on the road at a time?  Two months

How long have you been driving?  Ed has been driving for 14 years and I’ve been driving for 4.

How long have you been an Owner Operator?  Ed, 8 years and Salena, 4 years

Brand and year of truck you own:  2007 Freightliner Coronado

What is the size and model of your ARI sleeper?  132” RDFS Legacy II

What is the best thing you like about your ARI sleeper?  Ed likes the shower and I like the kitchen and pantry.  In addition to the amenities the sleeper itself offers, we love the service we get from ARI.  It’s nice to go in for a repair and be personally acknowledged by everyone, and on top of that, get superior service.

How has your ARI sleeper changed life on the road?
We think it makes our daily life on the road more comfortable.   On time sensitive team runs, there is no stress about having to make time to stop for meals, showers or bathroom breaks and when we have down time, hanging out in the truck is now a pleasure!

Would you ever consider going back to a factory sleeper?  Never!  But we have considered going bigger!

What is the most asked question you get about your ARI sleeper?  How big is that thing?  What do you have in there?  How much does it cost?  How much does it weigh?  Do you like it?  I love answering all of these questions and often invite other drivers in to take a look.  I remember how much I always wanted to see the inside prior to buying our sleeper, so I’m always up for giving someone else the grand tour!  Ed said everyone wants to know if the sleeper has a queen bed.

Do you feel that having a longer wheelbase has limited your ability in maneuvering your truck?  No, we really haven’t come across any places we can’t get into because of the wheelbase.

In your opinion has owning an ARI sleeper lowered your monthly expenses?  Absolutely!  In the first month alone, we saved over $2,000 dollars.  At 11 months of ownership, the money we saved on hotels and dining out came to over $17,600.00!

When you are home what is the first thing you like to do?  Ed likes to go through the mail and relax in the recliner and I like to go out to dinner to catch up with my friends and then hang out at home with my family.

What are your hobbies?  Ed likes video games, windsurfing, movies and reading about advances in technology and gadgets.  I like reading, photography, watching movies and writing my daily blog, which you can find at www.salenalettera.com

If you could change one thing in the trucking industry, what would it be?  Ed would like to see more extensive driver training from the trucking schools, which would result in safer, more competent drivers being on the road.  I would like to change the perception of the truck driver.  I want people to know that we are trained professionals, take our jobs seriously and that we deserve to be compensated better for our knowledge and skills.

4. Who do you drive for: We are owner/operators leased to R & R Trucking, Duenweg,Mo.

5. Team or solo operation: Team operation.

6. How many miles do you drive a year: We run approximately 200K miles per year.

7. How long do you usually stay out on the road at a time: We stay out 2 to 3 weeks.

8. How long have you been driving: Jim has been driving for 40 years. Leann has been driving 13 years.

9. How long have you been an Owner Operator: We have always been owner/operators.  We owned a small trucking company in northern California before moving to the midwest. We downsized and simplified our lives by concentrating on running one truck.  We settled in at R & R and are celebrating 8 years this month.

10. Brand and year of truck do you own: We have a 2008 Kenworth T660.

11. What is the size and model of your ARI sleeper:  We have a 144" Legacy II.

12. What is the best thing you like about your ARI sleeper: This is a tough one!  The sleeper is so wonderful it is difficult to pick just one thing. After much discussion we picked the bathroom!

13. How as your ARI sleeper changed life on the road: We are able to keep moving. No more bad truck stop food.  No more shower lines. No more bad motel beds or expense when laid over.  We have more room for our family, Mckenzie and Madison (our 2 corgis).

16. Do you feel that having a longer wheelbase has limited your ability in maneuvering your truck: Our length has had a minimal impact on our ability to get the job done.  I just means paying a little more attention and taking it a little slow when the situation dictates. Obviously, we are unable to go into Canada.

17. In your opinion has owning an ARI sleeper lowered your monthly expenses: Food and motel expenses are reduced.

18. When you are home what is the first thing you like to do : Jim, Take the bike (Harley) out for a ride or work on my project car.  In the summer I hit the pool before anything. Leann, Check on my kitty and then hit the pool. This question is another tough one because our home time has been very busy for the past few years with a major renovation of our home, so we usually hit the door running to get different phases done. As we get closer to completion I look forward to spending more time with hobbies I have abandoned like working in my garden and refinishing old furniture, and getting together with friends and family.

19. What are your hobbies: Our hobbies include classic cars, motorcycles, gardening, cooking/entertaining, and furniture refinishing.

20.If you could change one thing in the trucking industry what would it be: Eliminate over regulation.

Also the designers are constantly improving their bunks by listening to the drivers wants and needs. In a nutshell --- we love our ARI sleeper! It is our home away from home. John and Carla Berry
